The Hammerite name first appeared in 1962, when Allen Forster developed a hammered paint for use in electrical insulation. Ten years later Forster also develops another Hammerite product, Waxoyl.
But it was not until 1984 that Hammerite was launched into the UK’s DIY market with the use of a now famous TV marketing campaign. It was launched as an air-drying, corrosion-resistant coating for iron and steel.
Through the years it was owned by several companies including Williams Holding and ICI and is currently owned by giant paints company, AkzoNobel.
In over 25 years Hammerite has never lost its focus on metal – their knowledge and understanding of metal treatment remains unrivalled and Hammerite continues to be supported by world-class research at AkzoNobel. Today Hammerite is sold in over 55 countries worldwide.
